2023 Make a Bookmark Contest

There’s More to the Story

Discover a world of possibilities beyond books at your local library! Language learning, museum passes, laptop and tablet lending – there is so much more to the story. Show us where the library will take you by designing an original bookmark. The winning entries will be made available at all Miami-Dade Public Library System locations.

Open to all ages.

Contest Information and Entry Rules
  1. Theme: There’s More to the Story.
  2. The contest is open to all and is divided into four age group categories:
         • 5 years and under
         • 6 - 11 years
         • 12 - 18 years
         • 19 years and over
  3. Participants must be Miami-Dade Public Library System (MDPLS) cardholders. Don’t have a library card? Sign up online at ecard.mdpls.org to receive one via email or visit any library location.
  4. All artwork must be the original work of the participant and can be created digitally or by hand. Entries that violate copyright laws will be disqualified.
  5. Limit one entry (electronic or paper) per participant.
  6. Entries may be submitted in person to any MDPLS location by 8 p.m. Monday, March 20. Digital entries may be submitted via email to contest@mdpls.org by 11:59 p.m. Monday, March 20 in JPEG or PDF format and must be no larger than 2 MB. The email submitted must contain the entrant’s name, address, phone number, email address, library branch, library card number, and the following language for electronic certification:
    “I certify that the design submitted is mine and is completely original and does not violate any copyright laws. I grant the Miami-Dade Public Library System permission to use my name, creative work and visual image in its publications without recourse.”
  7. Library staff will judge entries on originality and best interpretation of the theme.
  8. Eight finalists from each age group will be chosen.
  9. Finalists will be notified by April 1 and invited with their families to an awards ceremony.
  10. The grand prize winners, one from each age group category, will have their bookmark designs reproduced and made available to patrons at all MDPLS locations. The top three winners in each age group category will receive a prize.
  11. All entries become property of MDPLS.
  12. MDPLS employees are not eligible to participate.

Dimensions & Instructions for Our Digital Artists

Overall image/work area: 2.75” wide by 8.5” tall.

The design and any text/copy must be kept within this area.

Any scans, images and/or photos used in your design must be at least 300 DPI in actual size.
