FAQs
What is an eBook? Why are there different formats? What device should I get? Will eBooks work with my Kindle? How long can eBooks be kept? What are the late fees? Can they be returned early? What do I do when my eBook license expires? What do I need to get started? Where can I find ebooks on the library's website? Or, you can simply type in ebooks.mdpls.org in your browser's address bar to be taken directly to the eBooks page. Troubleshooting
Help! OverDrive is not allowing me to check out a title. My eBook didn't completely download to my computer. You will need to download the title again. Go to your Digital Account and click on My Titles. The titles you currently have checked out are displayed. Click the title's 'Download' link and the title should download again. Adobe Digital Editions keeps prompting me to "authorize my computer." What do I do? Whenever you use a new computer or device for eBooks from an OverDrive-powered site, you will be prompted to authorize it. Open Adobe Digital Editions. The Setup Assistant dialog box should be displayed. Enter the email address and password for your Adobe ID. (If you do not have an Adobe ID, click on "get an Adobe ID online" and follow instructions to sign up for an Adobe ID.) Click "Activate." Your computer is now authorized with your Adobe ID. Click Finish to close the Setup Assistant dialog box. Important: If you would like to transfer an eBook from Adobe Digital Editions to an eBook reader, be sure to authorize your eBook reader using the same Adobe ID. I downloaded an eBook to my computer, but Adobe Digital Editions won't open the file. Your computer may be trying to open the eBook with the program Adobe Reader, instead of Adobe Digital Editions. You may need to manually set Adobe Digital Editions as the default program to open .acsm files (the format eBooks are downloaded in). Depending on whether you have Mac or a PC and what version of Windows you are using, you will need to follow the instructions found here to set Adobe Digital Editions as your default program. My Nook does not show up in my Adobe Digital Editions program. Your computer may not be recognizing the Nook connection. First connect your Nook to your computer and click on the Nook drive. Look for the .adobe-digital-editions file on your Nook drive and delete it. If you can't find it, it may be because your computer is hiding setup files. Once you've deleted the file from your Nook, restart Adobe Digital Editions and your Nook should become visible. Make sure to click "Authorize Device" once the Nook has shown up again. |
